BULLIES!-BULLIES!-BULLIES!-Probably everybody has experienced them at one time or another. They are absolutely no fun to be around and they will do just about anything to make your life as miserable as possible. I know what I’m talking about because I was bullied repeatedly when I was a child. You wonder how the bully can be enjoying himself/herself so much at your expense. Still, the bullying never stops. It goes on and on and on and you wonder why no one comes to your rescue. It’s because bullies are sneaky. They fly right under the radar and nobody catches them mistreating folks.
Many articles have been written about bullying. It’s a huge problem for all ages. Children that are bullies often grow up to be adult bullies. Normally we think of bullies in school, but there are bullies in the workplace too. Bullies come in all shapes and sizes. Don’t ever underestimate what a bully will do. What some folks may think is childish, innocent fun often turns out to be a devastating pain that reaches straight to the core of the heart and lasts decades for the one being bullied. Actually, sometimes they never get past the pain.
How can we stop bullies? Being educated and getting our eyes opened is a starting place. My first children’s book-Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley-is a fun, informative and entertaining look at what bullying can do to one person’s self-esteem. It contains an important life lesson that will stay with the reader for years to come. It CAN and WILL empower you to change your life if you let it.
It’s vitally important for us to educate children and adults about the hazards of bullying. Do you want your wonderful child or precious grandchild to turn into a bully? Do you want them to be the one getting bullied? Of course not. So, what are we going to do about it? My suggestion is for you to contact me about the character education presentation about bullying that I do at schools. When I am finished with my presentation, everybody in attendance will understand that bullying is totally unacceptable behavior. I present this message in a very different way than school personnel does, but it’s proven to be highly effective.
