Pat Brannon was so awesome. She really was down to earth and reached the children with her playful antics and great stories. Her books are fun and have a great message that is good for any child of any age.”

Last February our school was visited by Ms. Pat Brannon. Our students and staff thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Brannon. She talked to our students about the importance of being a good friend, and how our words and actions can hurt others. She also read excerpts from her book, Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley. Our students really enjoyed hearing Ms. Brannon read these passages, and many of our teachers were very excited about the lessons that the students learned from Ms. Brannon’s visit. We hope Ms. Brannon can visit us again, hopefully soon."

Pat Brannon did an excellent job with our students. She was our guest at the monthly character assemblies. The students were well engaged and learned how Mrs. Brannon uses her life experiences to write her stories. I love that she was “down to earth” and involved the students. Afterwards, she even took time to visit one of the classes and autographed bookmarks. The teacher and students were very excited! We would love to have her return and talk to our older students about becoming an author and what it takes to get books published."

Dear Mrs. Brannon,

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for coming to our school. It was such a special treat for us to have a real “live” author. You captivated the boys and girls from the minute you opened the door to the auditorium. YOU became the character in your book! This was incredible motivation for our children. They are already asking what the new character will be in your next book. Not only are you an amazing author, but your characters personalize the story for everyone. There are “Farley’s” in all our classrooms. Besides being a chapter book for students, there is also a “character “ lesson for all of us.

From the time you substituted for me and wrote poems for the classes to now, you are a very gifted lady. Thank you for writing for boys and girls. We look forward to reading more adventures! Also, Belle Elementary would like to be an audience of yours anytime. Please let Ms. Ward know when you can come back!

Sincerely,
Karen Harris, Lead teacher

“I enjoyed the metamorphosis which Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley endured among his schoolmates, the anti-social experience he suffered and his eventual growth into a proud emergence as a class icon compared to my childhood experiences in the depression era in Puerto Rico where I was born in 1934.

Born in rock-bottom, abject poverty, but with a prolific knowledge-seeking mind, I rose to dignity and acceptance by my junior and high school classmates, thanks in part to a loving mother’s dedication to her children. She did not let our poverty keep her from sending us to school in clean, ironed clothing.

The smell in our hero’s body was replaced in my case with indifference and loneliness at first, but gave way to recognition of my talents as a historic orator, ample fluency in English, and a long military career that spanned 28 years.

Pat Brannon has certainly shown her forte’ in describing the anti-social mores, injustice, and prejudice prevalent in some of our schools today. With patient acceptance and understanding of the beauty and resourcefulness of a child that is different, yet not conforming to the mores of today’s society, we accept Pat’s analogy in such a descriptive, sure that all of us in a minority must look at to dispel the evils of rejection.”

"Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley is a wonderful example of what students should not do and a classic example of what they are capable of. A must-read, feel-good story.”

"As a teacher, it is rare to find a book that students in this grade level can truly relate to and learn a lesson from. When I read Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley, I was very impressed with the message that it sent to the reader. In our area, poverty is a very familiar problem. Therefore, students can empathize with Farley. It is a rare occurrence when a student can learn a valuable life lesson while improving their reading skills with a book that is as enjoyable as this one. This story is very age-appropriate for elementary and middle school students, but is heartwarming no matter what age. The author, Pat Brannon, is an incredibly talented writer, which is evident in this children's book. I would recommend this book to every teacher, parent, and student. In my opinion, this book is a must read!”

Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley is a delightful book which certainly captures the minds and hearts of typical elementary/middle school-aged children. Throughout the book a theme of empathy and perspective taking is woven to “bring home” the idea of “walking in another’s shoes” and having compassion.

All teachers and students have encountered a Farley at some point in their school experiences. Farley reminds us that each of us is important and can be helpful and valuable to others, no matter what our circumstances. So this could open discussion for character education in the classroom.

Pat Brannon is one of our newest creative writers who knows the personalities of children and writes to enlighten the readers to a better understanding of their peers and their situations. Her heart is centered around living a loving, Christ-centered life that follows the Golden Rule.”

As a teacher in the public school system, Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley is a true-to-life character that teachers and students come in contact with on a daily basis. The author truly puts into perspective the feelings of Farley and how society deals with the less fortunate. This is a must-read not only for children, but adults too.”

"I recently attended a book review of Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley at a public library where Pat did a wonderful job acting out many of the issues our children face today-bullying, gossiping, name-calling, hurt feelings, lying, confidence, honesty, and judging others by their outward appearance.

I highly recommend that Pat's book, Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley, be available to our youth through the schools and libraries and that a copy of this book should be in school libraries, city libraries, and personal libraries. We must protect our children from being bullied and belittled in this society in which we live today.”

"Self worth and tolerance for individual differences - these are only two of the positive character traits which shine through Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley. Pat Brannon helps all of us walk in another's shoes. She immediately hooked our students at Sequoyah Elementary School in Russellville, Arkansas with her enthusiasm and intriguing wardrobe! Because she and Filthy Farley O’Charlie McBarley were on our computers in the library and we had read the book and distributed the leaflets, our students were eager to meet Pat Brannon. She did not disappoint them. Her presentation is an excellent character education program using the power of reading."

Shannon Primary School thoroughly enjoyed the presentation given by Mrs. Pat Brannon. Our students were mesmerized by Mrs. Brannon’s costume and the way she spoke. They really seemed to pay attention to her because of her outfit. She came across to them as an elementary school boy. Mrs. Brannon did a wonderful job and we were thrilled to have her visit our school.”
